When you salary package a car with an nlc novated lease, it is important to understand what you can and cannot claim for reimbursement.
When you choose the car you want with all the optional extras you want, it is best to include all the options you want at the point of purchase.
This is because, in accordance with ATO FBT regulations, nlc is only able to reimburse you for some items after you have commenced your novated lease.
As you can see below, if you do not include the items in the "cannot reimburse" list in the initial purchase of your vehicle, nlc will be unable to reimburse you. Once the car has been purchased nlc can only reimburse or pay for the cost of the expenses in the left column.
So if you want any of the items in the "cannot reimburse" list, think about including them in the initial purchase of the vehicle, therefore benefiting from the tax advantages of your novated lease.
Please also note the "not packageable" items, these items cannot be included in the salary packaging of a car under a novated lease, nor can they be reinbursed after the lease has commenced.
